The Site

Where you are…

I first became interested in web design when I was only twelve or thirteen years old. This was back when Charmed was still one of my super-favorite television shows, and I developed an insane crush on the actor Drew Fuller, who played Chris Halliwell on the show. I visited many fansites devoted to him,  and it was around this time when I noticed a link that was marked “Join Drew’s Fanlisting!”. Intrigued, I clicked, and joined both the Drew Fuller and the Chris Halliwell fanlistings. But I was far from done with fanlistings. By joining these two fanlistings, I became intrigued with what these little websites were. The more interested I became, the more I wanted to make one of my own. So I applied, and was approved – for something Charmed-related, of course. I first built it on Geocities, and was quite proud of myself. And I must admit to this day that it was a pretty good layout considering it was my first one. But of course, I soon realized that Geocities just wasn’t good enough for this fanlistings business, which required PHP and SQL in order to function properly.

I decided to find a host that would let me have a subdomain, and I ended up picking up a link to Gill’s wesbite, which was offering others subdomains. She definitely proved to be an excellent hostess. However, when  she announced that she would no longer be offering free hosting, and if we wanted we could buy a package from her hosting company, American Princess Web Designs, I was faced with either buying a domain and hosting from her, or trying to find another host.

Alas, Eloquent-Serenity.Org was born. I came up with the name randomly, and it first served as both an unupdated blog and my fanlisting collective. Today, it serves solely as a link to all my websites – I keep it because it’s free. A year later I had decided to seperate my blog from my fanlisting collective. My collective became Close-To-Heart.Org, and my blog became this website that you are looking at right now. It took nearly a year to get Nothing-Better up and running, but it was worth it.

What’s In A Name?

I’m aware that most people will first think that my domain name is a sign of narcissicism – but it’s not, trust me. When I had decided to split my original site, I was stumped in finding a name for my blog. I had originally wanted to call it “Beautiful-Disaster.Org”, but it was taken at the time(but it isn’t now that I write this, darn it). After this initial disappointment, I eventually decided that I wanted to take the name of a song that I really liked. I went through my iTunes collection, finally deciding on Nothing-Better. I’m sure most people aren’t aware of this song, but it’s great. It’s sung by the band The Postal Service – whose other songs everyone should definitely check out as well.

Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together?

This Design…

The current layout features the absolutely amazing Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who are both fantastic actors and share amazing on-screen chemistry. Zooey and Joseph are well-known for having starred together in the fantastic movie (500) Days of Summer, in which they played Tom and Summer Finn. I was originally going to create a layout that feature Joseph only, but decided that I had to include Zooey as well, because the two just look so great together. If you loved them in (500) Days of Summer, they also starred together in the movie Manic, and the two created a music video for the band She&Him(which Zooey is a member of).
